Bio
I am a research scientist in the HATUA consortium at the Center for Microbiology Research, where we seek to address the global antibacterial resistance (ABR) crisis through local action, mapping the burden and drivers of disease to translate the global strategy into local solutions.
My STEM journey began with my passion for science at a very tender age. This passion and several mentors motivated me all through my study. I graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Genomic Sciences. I have since been involved in science research projects which focus on surveillance of tropical and infectious diseases in Kenya.
I previously interned at the US Army Medical Research Directorate in the Arbovirus/Viral hemorrhagic fevers research. During this period, I was also awarded a certificate of training on LAMP Technique for Malaria diagnosis by Thailand-Kenya Cooperation Project on Malaria and Tropical diseases.
My goal as part of the Women in STEM Network is to inspire and motivate young people in pursuit of STEM careers and study, as we aim to bring positive changes in these fields.
As a Mentor my aim is...
To create a space for mentees and other mentors to share their ideas, network, and be creative and come with solutions to global issues in STEM.
To inspire mentees through my own story and to share more on the tips and skills I have learned along the way
To see to it that many of our mentees through this group get opportunities to pursue their study and career in STEM.
Fun fact
I love nature, exploring its sceneries and taking walks in nature parks.
My advice to young adults...
Pursue your passion and be creative. Networking is very key. It helps in developing resourceful relationships, building confidence, and also in advancing in your career. Always set your short-term and long-term goals as it will motivate you to do your best.
